Doc Fritchey TU is Recipient of Best PA Chapter Award !

At the annual meeting of Trout Unlimited’s PA Council on October 3, 2009, the
Doc Fritchey Chapter was honored to receive the Edward J. Urbas Award for
Best PA Chapter.  This award is bestowed annually on one of 52 TU chapters
statewide whose efforts best exemplify the TU mission overall, from projects
to outreach to conservation of coldwater resources.

Our thanks go out to all those members whose tireless efforts helped to make
this happen.

Support Your Chapter - Purchase Raffle Tickets!

This year, we are offering 7 great prizes in a raffle which will be drawn at our
Annual Fundraising Banquet on March 27.  Tickets are $5.00 each, or 5 for
$20.00, and will be drawn in the order listed for the following prizes.

In January, all chapter members will receive a mailing of 5 raffle tickets, and
it is hoped that each member will either purchase these tickets or sell them to
others to help with our fundraising efforts.  Additional tickets will be available
at our January & February meetings, or can be ordered anytime by sending

“Back the Brookie“ Plates Are Now Available

Purchase an absolutely gorgeous front license plate for your favorite vehicle and while
you’re at it help preserve the brook trout population in PA.
  These decorative (non-
registration) license plates are just $20.00 each and can be ordered by sending your

If you want them shipped to you, please add $3.00 to cover packaging and shipping
costs.  Proceeds from the sale of these plates will be put into a special PATU conserv-
ation fund for brook trout habitat restoration in Pennsylvania.

Chapter Fly Boxes Offered for Sale

Doc Fritchey TU is now offering premium quality, double-sided, waterproof fly boxes
for sale which are similar to items retailing for as much as $40.00 or more.  These boxes
feature see-through lids with the TU and Doc Fritchey logos on one side, and slit micro-
foam inserts which will accommodate as many as 276 flies.  Dimensions are 6” long by

Stock Up on Quality Leaders at a Bargain Price!

PA Council of Trout Unlimited is offering TU members an opportunity to purchase high quality, hand-knotted tapered leaders at the bargain price of just $3.50 apiece.
These leaders feature Maxima material of several different types and are the very same leaders which retail for about 5 bucks apiece in several leading fly shops.

Dry Fly Leaders – available in 9 foot lengths, featuring Maxima Chameleon hard butt and next 3 sections, with Maxima Ultragreen softer mid-sections and 24-inch tippets.  Available with 4X, 5X or 6X tippets.

Wet Fly Leaders – available in 9 foot lengths, featuring two droppers tied with mason hard knots and Maxima clear tippet sections.  Available with 4X or 5X tippets.

These leaders will be available to purchase at our chapter meetings, or they can be ordered by sending a check payable to “DFTU” to Bob Pennell, 2319 Valley Rd., Harrisburg, PA 17104.  The cost per leader is $3.71 ($3.50 + $ .21 sales tax), and please be sure to specify the type and size required.
