PATU Youth Camp

The PA Council Rivers Conservation and Fly Fishing Youth Camp is an annual event hosted by the TU Cumberland Valley Chapter at the Allenberry Resort on Yellow Breeches Creek in Boiling Springs. Initiated in 1995 as the inspiration of the late Dr. Jack Beck and Enoch “Inky” Moore, each year the camp accommodates up to 32 young men and women, ages 14 through 17, who qualify for the opportunity to attend.

The week-long camp is designed to teach these young students the importance of protecting our coldwater environments by linking fly fishing techniques with the basic principles of coldwater conservation. The list of instructors who volunteer their time to teach the various disciplines reads like a “who’s who” of their respective scientific fields, as well as the fly fishing community.

Although the Doc Fritchey Chapter does not play a direct role in the camp, each year we budget funds to sponsor two local students who qualify by submitting their brief essays and letters of recommendation from their school science teachers. For further details and information on applying to the camp, check out www.riverscamp.com.
